November

We are now on the third month of Grade 3. Whew! How time flies so fast?

There are so many things that had happened and is going to happen this month.

First, we started this month by celebrating our school mass with Archbishop Albert LeGatt. We are fortunate to have our school visited by His Grace, Archbishop LeGatt. The Grade 3s worked so hard to make this school mass a successful event. They practiced. They read and sang very well. I am so proud of them.

Second, the provincial assessment were done. The Grade 3s did their best and they had good results. The results were given to the parents. They can ask about the results and what it meant for their children during the conference.

Third, we had our Student-Led Conferences. The Grade 3s had worked so hard to prepare their portfolios so that they have something to show to their parents. They were able to talked about their work and what were they proud of this term and what needs to improve. It was great to speak with all of the families at student-led conferences.  The Grade 3 students were very excited to take them home and share them with their whole family.

Fourth, November is a time of remembrance and peace.  The grade three students have been learning about Remembrance Day and we took part in the Remembrance Day ceremony on Thursday, November 6th. We have invited a speaker from the marines and she gave the students a wonderful and powerful speech.

In Language Arts, we have been focusing on our reading, writing and spelling.  We have been writing in our journals, working in our phonics and spelling text books. We started learning about Dictionary and the skills that they need to find the words in the dictionary.

In Math, we are continuously working on our addition and subtraction with and without regrouping. We are adding two and three digits. We also had small unit about estimation. We are doing skip counting . We started with 2 and will go all the way to 12. This is important this will serve as their basis when we start learning about multiplication. We will continue to do our Math Minutes on addition and subtraction so please keep on practicing.

In Social Studies, we are continuously learning about being a good Canadian citizen.  We will be learning about leadership, decision making and conflict resolution this month.  We also had a small unit about Respect.
