February

“Though the weather is getting colder, keep your heart warm by feeling for others.”

February is always considered a super busy month. There were many activities. But one thing is for sure, we, the Grade 3 are super busy learning and working.

We wanted to make sure that we are always doing the best that we can in every task, homework, worksheet, and tests. We are trying our best effort to be focused and behaved.

In Religion, we have learned so much about Christ and His Kingdom. We have learned about our role as Christians. We have learned that to be a Christian should not only be in word but more of an action. As Christians we are always called to think good, to say good and do good all the time. To be kind and to love everyone is one of our primary goals. We learned the Gifts and Fruits of the Holy Spirit, we are learning about the importance of the Church, the community we belong and soon we will be learning about Lent, the Triduum, Easter and Pentecost.

In Spelling, we are still working on our long vowels. Learning that not all words are written in capital letters. We are looking forward to learning more new words.

In Language Arts, we have learned about Nouns, Common and Proper Nouns, Plural For of Nouns, and Syllables. We will learn more about Capitalization, Synonyms, and Antonyms. We will be learning about Homonyms and different Parts of Speech, and we will start with Nouns and Verbs. In Printing, we are doing a lot of printing practicing to make sure our printing is neat and stays on the line.

In Math, we are continuously strengthening our Addition and Subtraction with and without regrouping. We are learning and practicing to read and tell the time. We are also doing rounding up and down of numbers. We will do Roman Numerals and Ordinal Numbers, and Skip Counting by 1s, 2s, 3s, 4s and 5s. Skip Counting will be our initial step to learning multiplication.

In Science, we are having so much fun learning about the different facts about plants. We also have the different experiments like finding what’s inside a seed, how plant roots absorb water and how leaves get water. The experiment that we are doing right now is called Color-Changing Leaves/Flowers using Celery stalks with leaves. Learning about plants is fun and very exciting.

In Social Studies, we have learned about the different provinces and territories of Canada. We will also learn about different Canadian symbols and Landscapes. And then we will learn about the different people communities in Canada. We are also hoping to learn about other country.

In French, we have learned about French greetings and numbers. We are learning about the French colors and soon will learn about Fruits and Vegetables, Farm Animals in French, as well as French Valentine words.

In Art, we love doing our Arts projects. We did Fruits and Vegetables painting. Our next project will be Valentine arts as special gifts to our parents. Here in Grade 3, we take pride of all the fancy artworks that we do.

Also, last year in November we started doing kindness sessions with a Miss Talfert and Mrs. Jennifer Curtis-Klein, they were our Social Workers and they were doing sessions with the Grade 3. We started with the Kindness Sessions and this month we are doing Mindfulness Sessions. The students love it. And it is a good reminder for them to be kind all the time.

Please make sure that you are checking and signing your child’s agenda everyday. This is a great tool for communication between school and home.

If you have any questions or concerns about your child, please feel free to write me a note in their agenda or send me an email to grade3sgs@gmail.com.

Thank you, stay safe and keep warm.

Mrs. Francisco
