March
It’s hard to believe that we are already in the month of
March. Report cards were sent home on
March 6th and parent-teacher interviews are next week. Please remember to sign the parent comment
sheet and send it back to school with the report card envelope.
In Languange Arts we are working on many different
skills. We are learning about
alphabetical order, how to use a dictionary, compound words, contractions and
continuing our weekly spelling program, phonics and journal activities.
In Math, we have started learning
different multiplication strategies such as repeated addition, equal groups,
arrays and number lines. We will
continue to practice our 3 digit addition and subtraction with addition and
regrouping.
In Science, we started a new unit
called Materials and Structures. We will
be learning about how the strength and stability of a structure is directly
related to the materials used and the way those materials are put together. There will be lots of opportunity for fun
hands on activities and experiments.
In Social Studies, we started a new
unit called Exploring the World. We will
learn about world geography and how to use a map. We will look at human rights and the role
that community services play in our community.
In Religion, we are learning about
Lent. We began lent on Ash
Wednesday. Lent lasts for 40 days and
involves preparing for Easter by fasting, prayer and almsgiving. It is a time to reflect on the events leading
up to the death and resurrection of Jesus.
Please
remember to check and sign your child’s agenda each night. Also, please do not hesitate to contact me at
the school or through the agenda if you have any concerns regarding your child.
Take care,
Mrs.
Shade
