Let this be our goal for this month. It is March and there are three more months left before we cay goodbye to Third Grade. 

Report cards were sent home on March 5th and parent-teacher interviews are scheduled on Thursday, March 19th and Friday, March 20th. Always and please remember to sign the parent comment sheet and send it back to school with the report card envelope. 

In English Language Arts, we have been working and mastering on many different skills.  We are strengthening our alphabetical order skills and the use of dictionary. We are also learning about compound words, contractions and continuing our weekly spelling program, and phonics. We will start working on our Printing and Handwriting Workbook.

In Math, we started learning the different multiplication strategies such as arrays, equal groups, repeated addition, and number lines.  We will continue to practice our 3 digit addition and subtraction with addition and regrouping. We will keep on doing mental math activities to strengthen our addition, subtraction and multiplication facts. 

In Science, we started a new unit called Materials and Structures.  We will be learning about how the strength and stability of a structure is directly related to the materials used and the way those materials are put together.  There will be lots of opportunity for fun hands on activities and experiments. 

In Social Studies, we started a new unit called Exploring the World.  We started by learning about the Chinese New Year and we will learn more about world geography and how to use a map.  We will look at human rights and the role that community services play in our community.    

In Religion, we are learning about Lent.  We began lent on Ash Wednesday.  Lent lasts for 40 days. We give importance to the three pillars of Lent: fasting, prayer and alms giving.  Lent is the time to fast not only for physical fasting like food. We are learning that we need to fast in a different way and it includes our words and look closely at our actions. Lent is a time to reflect and to meditate on the events leading up to the death and resurrection of Jesus. 

Always please remember to check and sign your child’s agenda each night.

April I hope everyone had a wonderful spring break and some warmer weather and sunshine are in store for us this month.    In ELA, we continue to practice our skills through our weekly spelling program, phonics and journal activities.   We will be writing stories and doing some creative writing activities throughout the month of April.    In Math, we are continuing to practice our multiplication facts and strategies.   We are still practicing our 3-digit addition with regrouping and 3-digit subtraction with borrowing as well.   We will start learning division after spring break.   In Science, we are well into our new unit on Structures and Materials.   The students are really enjoying this unit so far and they will get the chance to build some bridges and test their strength later this month.   In Social Studies, we have been discussing Human Rights and learning about different organizations around the world that help children ...

 Wow! It’s hard to believe it is already June and the end of the school year is upon us. With that being said, we still have a lot of learning and fun activities in the weeks ahead. In Language Arts we are finishing up our last spelling unit for the year. We have started to learn cursive writing and will continue to practice our phonics, grammar, reading and writing throughout the month of June. In math, we finished up our fractions unit. We will start a short unit on time to end the school year. In Science, we are learning about different structures and the materials that are used to build them. We are learning about the different strengths of materials and how you can make a structure stronger by using different shapes, materials or designs. In Social Studies, we are looking at different parts of a map and how to read a map. We are learning about world geography and looking at the different continents and oceans of the world.   Wow! It’s hard to believe we are already in the month of December.   We have been busily preparing for the Christmas Concert and the kids are so excited to share it with their families.   Although it is a very busy time of year, we are still doing a lot of learning in the classroom.   In Language Arts, we are working on reading comprehension, phonics and grammar within our writing.   We are writing in our Journals every week and we will be working on different Christmas writing projects throughout the month.   We will be continuing with our weekly spelling program as well.   In Math we are working on our skip counting to 100 by 3’s and 4’s.   We are also working on our skip counting to 1000 by 5’s, 10’s, 25’s and 100’s.   We are also continuing to practise our addition and subtraction facts to 18 for quicker recall and accuracy.   In Science we are continuing our unit about Growth and Changes in Plants.   The students enjo...
