 February has officially arrived!  

It's the LOVE month! I love to Read Month! 

It's Catholic Schools Week!

Ash Wednesday! 


 We are definitely for sure going to be very busy. 

In English Language Arts, we are continuing with our weekly spelling, phonics, reading comprehension.  We are doing a review of our printing skills; making sure the letter sizes and shapes are correct. They need this skill so that they can be ready for their handwriting skills. 

In Math, we are continuing with our mental math skills adding and subtracting 2 digit numbers with and without regrouping. We are also practicing our Understanding Word Problems and solving them. We are preparing ourselves learning Multiplication by learning Skip Counting by 2-12. 

In Science, we will soon be wrapping up our unit on plants and starting our next unit on Materials and Structures. 

In Social Studies, we learned about the Inuit Culture. We made our Igloo and learned how our Inuit brothers and sisters communicate with the use of Inukshuks. We will continue learning about being Canadian through our National song and will soon be wrapping up our unit on Connecting with Canadians and starting our next unit on Exploring the World.

In Religion, we are learned about the Church and we are exploring and learning more about My Parish. Getting to know my parish priest and the roles that laypeople do in the church. We are also fortunate to be visited by Deacon Tom Kennedy as he spoke about his journey being a deacon. We will visit the church once again to see what is in the church. 

Important dates to remember:

·       Sunday, February 8th – School Mass – St. Gerard Church at 9:30am. All are

 welcome to attend. Please wear your school uniform.

·       Monday, February 9th – NUT day – Number day

·       Tuesday, February 10th – NUT day – Rhyme without Reason day

               – Family Lunch. Have lunch with the whole school community.

                                                    – Early dismissal 2:25 pm.

·       Wednesday, February 11th  – NUT day – Cultural Day. Wear your cultural dress. 

·       Thursday, February 12th – NUT day – Activity Day - Christmas in February. Wear your TEAM colors and match it with Christmas accessories like hat, socks, necklace or anything christmassy. 

·       Friday, February 13th – In Service – NO SCHOOL

·       Monday, February 16th – Louis Riel Day – NO SCHOOL

·       Tuesday, February 17th – Pancake Lunch (Shrove Tuesday) 

                                                - Last Day for Mad Science

*     Wednesday, February 18th - NUT day – Purple Day 

                                                    - Ash Wednesday at 11:00 am

                                                    - All are invited to attend

* Friday, February 20th - NUT Day Earth Day. Wear Blue, Green and Brown 

*  Monday, February 23th – Admin Day NO SCHOOL

·  Wednesday, February 25th - NUT Day - Weer Pink

* Friday, February 27th – NUT day – Wear Black and White

April I hope everyone had a wonderful spring break and some warmer weather and sunshine are in store for us this month.    In ELA, we continue to practice our skills through our weekly spelling program, phonics and journal activities.   We will be writing stories and doing some creative writing activities throughout the month of April.    In Math, we are continuing to practice our multiplication facts and strategies.   We are still practicing our 3-digit addition with regrouping and 3-digit subtraction with borrowing as well.   We will start learning division after spring break.   In Science, we are well into our new unit on Structures and Materials.   The students are really enjoying this unit so far and they will get the chance to build some bridges and test their strength later this month.   In Social Studies, we have been discussing Human Rights and learning about different organizations around the world that help children ...

 Wow! It’s hard to believe it is already June and the end of the school year is upon us. With that being said, we still have a lot of learning and fun activities in the weeks ahead. In Language Arts we are finishing up our last spelling unit for the year. We have started to learn cursive writing and will continue to practice our phonics, grammar, reading and writing throughout the month of June. In math, we finished up our fractions unit. We will start a short unit on time to end the school year. In Science, we are learning about different structures and the materials that are used to build them. We are learning about the different strengths of materials and how you can make a structure stronger by using different shapes, materials or designs. In Social Studies, we are looking at different parts of a map and how to read a map. We are learning about world geography and looking at the different continents and oceans of the world.   It’s hard to believe that we are already in the month of March.   Report cards were sent home on March 6 th and parent-teacher interviews are next week.   Please remember to sign the parent comment sheet and send it back to school with the report card envelope.   In Languange Arts we are working on many different skills.   We are learning about alphabetical order, how to use a dictionary, compound words, contractions and continuing our weekly spelling program, phonics and journal activities.
